The Rotary Club of Greater Portage County is proud to be the official sponsor of Toys for Tots in Portage County. We work with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to collect new, unwrapped toys for children. Visit our Toys for Tots page for more information.
Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity is the fund raising, funding and support organization for the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. The Foundation was created at the behest of the U. S. Marine Corps and provides support in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding with the Commander, Marine Forces Reserve, who directs the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. The Foundation has supported Toys for Tots since 1991.
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
At least twice a year our club serves a meal at Place of Peace, a local initiative that provides meals to those in need. This year we have also involved the UWSP Rotaract group.
Several times during the year the club collects food items that are then donated to the UWSP food pantry.
Each year our club allocates approximately $1000 to several local organizations identified by our members. This last year donations were made to the Portage County Library for Spanish language books, Nicaragua Partners for special cloth used to make bandages for burn victims, Girl Scouts and Health and Human Services to help local youth attend camp.
